In They Will Kill You (2026), a fiercely protective sister is drawn into a dangerous ritual inside a Manhattan high-rise. Trapped in an increasingly hostile environment, she must rely on instinct and mounting violence to uncover the truth. The first half showcases engaging, original action and gore, but the second half loses its edge, devolving into generic sequences.
It’s 100% splatstick, with its humorous moments. But, ultimately, it’s an amateur re-enactment of Sam Raimi & Tarantino. Evident inspo from Evil Dead and Kill Bill.
The lead is consistently strong, grounded in physicality and an aggressive screen presence.
The supporting cast is surprisingly capable but underwritten—most characters blur together, lacking enough background to give their outcomes weight.
Pacing is uneven, with abrupt shifts between chaotic action and stretches where little happens. The chapter structure adds confusion rather than clarity; a more straightforward approach would have served the narrative better.
It doesn’t fully capitalize on its strengths. The film hints at a more absurd, movement-driven style early on, but never fully commits.
With this and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, Zazie Beetz is worth keeping an eye on.
Could’ve used a better wrap-up. Kind of an uninspired ending for such a stylized, over-the-top film.
