Plot Summary
Disowned before he was even born, blue-collar outsider Becket Redfellow has spent his life on the margins of a wealthy family he’s never truly been part of. When a massive inheritance suddenly appears within reach, Becket sees a chance to reclaim the fortune he believes should have been his all along. But reentering the orbit of a powerful and deeply dysfunctional family proves far more complicated than expected. As tensions rise and opportunities present themselves, Becket begins making decisions that push him further into morally dangerous territory. How to Make a Killing follows a man determined to claim his place, no matter the consequences.
How to make a killing Quick Review
(undigested Watch notes)
- Glen Powell plays Glen Powell again. And narrates again. And sounds like he’s narrating during dialogue scenes again.
- Margaret Qualley has far too little screen time, considering she’s the only charming factor.
- Attempts humor with a series of one-liners, but only a few land.
- Unnecessary diffused shallow focus throughout = distracting, uncanny valley.
- Narration for the lazy; tell, tell, tell. Feels slow.
- Attempts to mask shallow motivations with clichéd trauma.
- Poorly developed and unlikeable main character; tries to rely on G.P.’s natural charm.
- The storytelling device removes all the tension.
- Decent wrap-up, could’ve used better development, setup, and elaboration.
